Last Nights Fox Valley Computer Professionals Meet-up

in

Last night (June 14th) we had a great turnout at meet-up. with 14 signed up and 13 people showed.

Kathleen Coughlin, a recruiter from Lyons Consulting, joined us to tell us about their operation and talk about what they are seeing as trends in the marketplace.

Ron Pringle, webmaster from the City of Aurora, and Tom Rogers from Northwestern University College of Anesthesiology teamed up for a presentation on SimpleXML and the potential of how XML can be used in critical systems. The results of their XML Show demonstrates the value of professionals getting together to learn from one another. As Tom put it... Ron's excellent presentation of SimpleXML provided just the right catalyst to get him started in developing some very valuable applications for Northwestern Hospital.

Very Impressive!! Please leave your comments and any Ideas for Future Meetings!

My Thoughts on Last Nights Meet-up

The big picture message I got from our conversation with Kathleen is that demand in the IT industry in Chicago continues to be strong for people with skills. The better you are able to demonstrate your skills with sound experience and knowledge the more marketable you will be.

Regarding the Ron and Tom Show.... what can I say! I am so thankful these two guys are active in our group. I only wish I was as inspired as Tom to poke around with XML after seeing Ron give his presentation the last time. I certainly will now, and fortunately I also have some projects on deck that have direct application, so it's both a curiosity as well as an economic need. I learned so much about XML and picked up on a number of other ideas the will be of great benefit to my work.
